Caitlyn Jenner’s memoir The Secrets of My Life (Grand
Central Publishing, $37) has hit shelves and everyone is clamouring for
all the hottest Kardashian/Jenner clan gossip within. Whether you’ve
been in with love with Caitlyn from the moment she graced the cover of Vanity Fair or you’ll never get over the fact that she’s a staunch conservative who voted for Trump, her new tell-all is the most anticipated Kardashian family arrival since North West. Here’s a roundup of the biggest reveals from Caitlyn Jenner’s memoir (“spoilers” ahead, obvi, if you’re planning to read it). In January, Caitlyn underwent gender confirmation surgery.
She writes, “I just want to have all the right parts. I am also tired of
tucking in the damn thing all the time.” But don’t expect her to talk
about it in any upcoming interviews: “I am telling you because I believe
in candour. So all of you can stop staring. You want to know, so now
you know. Which is why this is the first time, and the last time, I will
ever speak of it.” Married from 1991 to 2015 and parents to Kylie and Kendall, Kris and
Caitlyn don’t seem to agree on much lately. But things weren’t always
that way: “Since—let’s not kid ourselves—everyone wants to know, Kris
and I had good and frequent sex at the beginning.” Good to know. And on whether or not Kris knew about her wanting to transition,
Caitlyn writes, “This will always be a subject of dispute between us.
She insists that she was taken by surprise by my ultimate transition to
Caitlyn, which obviously means in her mind that she did not know
enough.” Apparently Kris was a little tight with the family purse strings.
Caitlyn reflects on their time together: “I do not have a checking
account. I have a credit card, but purchases are carefully pored over.
Kris is incredibly generous—on her terms.” Caitlyn first began hormone therapy in the ’80s, developing breasts
and eventually undergoing breast reduction surgery after meeting Kris:
“The procedure is easy. He basically liposuctions them out, and from the
vantage point of looking like a normal father I do look much better.
But from the vantage point of myself I am sad….” “So I stop going through transition in 1989. I can’t do this to my
kids. I can’t do this to me. I can’t do this to society. It is not
ready. I have to get back in the game. I have to once again establish
Bruce as the dominant presence, no matter how much I loathe him. I need
cover again.” The Kardashian clan was notably absent from Caitlyn’s special
interview with Diane Sawyer, because, well, she wanted to be taken
seriously. “They were slighted on purpose because of research showing
that any time a Kardashian is on television, many in the public tend to
think it is a publicity stunt to make money… After all of the time it
took to get here, I needed to make clear that this was real, this is my
life and not some publicity stunt.”She Had Gender Confirmation Surgery
